Beyond decarbonisation: Can the energy transition stay within planetary boundaries?

Beyond decarbonisation: Can the energy transition stay within planetary boundaries?

Is decarbonisation enough?

The EU's climate policy centers around Net Zero, with 75% of emissions traced to the energy sector. But is a low-carbon energy system equivalent to one that achieves absolute sustainability? And can we meet everyone's need for a decent life while staying within Earth's ecological limits?

Join us for the next DTU Centre for Absolute Sustainability Lunch Seminar: “Beyond decarbonisation: Can the energy transition stay within planetary boundaries?as we explore the absolute sustainability of the green energy transition.

📅 17th September 2026
🕓 12.00-13.00 CEST
📌 At DTU or virtual
🎟️ Participation is free and open to everyone

At the seminar, you will meet:

  • Dhruv Sharma: PhD student at DTU Centre for Absolute Sustainability and DTU Wind and energy systems working on integrating planetary boundaries with energy system analysis
  • Marie Münster: Professor in Energy System Modelling at DTU with extensive experience in the field of energy system modelling, focusing on integrated energy systems and smart sector coupling analysing technologies producing power, heat, gases and transport fuels. Marie is a member of the Danish Climate Council, lead author of the IPCC 7th Assessment report WGIII as well as member of the Climate Advisory Board of Ecole Polytechnique and of the referee panel of the Maritime DTU Orients research foundations.
